Pack Essentials Advocate Knowledge Project
The Pack Essentials Advocate Knowledge Project (PEAK) helps faculty, staff, students, and community partners gain a better understanding of food insecurity, housing insecurity, basic needs, and under-resourced students.

PEAK is a free, asynchronous course available through Reporter using your Shibboleth login credentials. In this course, Pack Essentials Advocates will learn to:
- Define food and housing insecurity
- Understand basic needs insecurity on NC State’s campus
- Identify students experiencing basic needs insecurity
- Refer students to appropriate resources
- Implement best practices to better serve students and their basic needs
How to Get Certified
Faculty, staff, and student organizations can become certified PEAK advocates by completing the PEAK Workshop on REPORTER and making commitments to serve as advocates on NC State’s campus.
- Include basic needs clause in syllabi
- Provide snacks in the office and/or at events
- Incorporate basic needs into curriculum/activities
- Donate to or volunteer with Feed the Pack
- Share information in your office space, on social media, or with your broader networks.
